The Duke of Edinburgh's Award for schools

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for schools

Essex County Council holds the licence to operate The Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award in Essex. The Essex Youth Service delivers the award directly through eight youth centres and supports schools with their DofE provision.

The Duke of Edinburgh's award is the world's leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to be the best they can be. Approximately 3,000 young people start their award in Essex each year. We are striving to grow this number year on year with your support.

Talk to us about how to offer the DofE Award to your students. We'd love to hear from you. Contact us: youth.work@essex.gov.uk

If your school chooses to deliver DofE working under our licence, you can expect us to support you in the following ways:

  • We will allocate you a designated DofE field officer to support your school
  • We will meet the school DofE leader at least three times a year to help support the DofE group
  • We will run induction training for all new DofE staff
  • We will share training materials to be used in participant training sessions
  • We will give advice and support on how to run expeditions
  • We will print certificates and provide badges for all participants who successfully complete their award
  • Free attendance at our annual leaders conference
  • Discount with group expedition kit provider - Access Expeditions
  • Free participation for gold award achievers, their families and DofE leaders at our annual Gold Award Presentation

Gold Award Presentation

Every year we organise and hold a prestigious award evening for Gold DofE achievers and their families. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate the successes and commitment of local people and is designed purely for those groups that completed their DofE programme through Essex County Council.
